Motherhood is messy.
Not just the spilled snacks and unfinished to-do lists, but the inner mess:
the overstimulation, the mental load, the constant decision-making, the quiet way you can lose track of yourself while caring for everyone else.
For many moms, especially neurodivergent moms, life can start to feel like one long scribble — tangled, loud, unfinished, and hard to make sense of.
Mindful Messes exists because the mess isn’t the problem.
The mess is where regulation, clarity, and reconnection actually begin.
What This Space Is
Mindful Messes is a creative wellness community for overwhelmed moms who want a slower, more human way to come back to themselves.
Through simple, process-based art practices — scribbling, lines, shapes, noticing — we use creativity as a way to:
regulate the nervous system
soften self-judgment
reconnect to identity and values
practice being with ourselves without fixing or performing
This is not about making “good art.”
It’s about creating space to feel like yourself again.
All of our work follows a gentle, repeatable rhythm:
FEEL → MAKE → BECOME → INTEGRATE
Not as steps to master, but as places you can return to — again and again.
This method was created by Jennifer Lawrence, a licensed professional counselor and licensed professional art therapist.
Here, her expertise becomes a creative wellness practice — not therapy — designed for real moms living real lives.
How The Scribble Sessions Work
Each month begins with a live, guided workshop for paid members.
This live session is where we:
slow down together
introduce the month’s theme experientially
practice regulation and creativity side by side
build safety before insight
You don’t need to prepare.
You don’t need to share.
You don’t need to feel “ready.”
From there, the rest of the month unfolds gently inside Substack:
Weekly posts that follow the FEEL → MAKE → BECOME → INTEGRATE rhythm
Notes for low-pressure reminders and regulation throughout the week
Optional chat prompts for quiet connection and reflection
Free subscribers are always welcome to explore the themes and practices through invitational content.
Paid members receive deeper containment, live experiences, and access to the growing workshop library.
Who This Is For
This space is for you if:
you feel overwhelmed, stretched thin, or disconnected from yourself
traditional self-care feels unrealistic or frustrating
you’re neurodivergent, parenting neurodivergent kids, or simply exhausted by “shoulds”
you want practices that fit into real life, not ideal conditions
you crave creativity without pressure or performance
You don’t need to be “creative.”
You don’t need special supplies.
You don’t need to keep up.
You’re allowed to start exactly where you are.
What This Is Not
Mindful Messes is not:
a productivity system
a habit tracker
a clinical therapy service
a space for fixing, optimizing, or pushing through
This is a non-clinical, creative regulation practice, grounded in expressive arts therapy, nervous system science, and adult learning principles — designed for limited time, limited energy, and very real lives.
A Note on Belonging
You can participate quietly here.
You can come and go.
You can skip weeks and return.
Consistency is not the goal.
Returnability is.
Whether you’re here for the free reflections or inside the live workshops, you belong exactly as you are.
In all the messiness,
🌈 Jennifer
